We commonly get asked how accurate is mobile phone tracking?  The answer isn’t always simple, but we do discuss mobile phone tracking accuracy in our FAQ section.  However, for those of you that prefer to read blogs, rather then read support pages, then this should help fill in the gaps…

The FollowUs mobile phone tracking service www.followus.co.uk  is transparent and extracts the data from your network operator as to the location of the mobile that you want to track.  In essence, when we track a mobile on your behalf, we get the same data as the police regarding the movement and location of mobiles.

Mobile phone tracking is not an exact science.  We find that accuracy when a mobile phone is tracked can vary depending upon the cell mast density of the area that the mobile is within.  We have seen mobile phone tracking accuracy as precise as 100m in central London and as inaccurate as 10km in the Scottish Highlands – it all depends upon cell mast density.  This means if you track my phone in a central city you will get a very accurate location.  If I then track the same phone to a very rural area you my get a very general location. It’s all down to cell mast density.

We have also seen fluctuations in mobile phone tracking where a local cell mast is down or overloaded with calls, when you requested a location.  This can result in the mobile phone being logged onto a longer range mast and accuracy in such cases can diminish.  However, the movement of the phone throughout the day to differing locations will minimise any user experience affected by network failures in specific area.. 

So to summarise, mobile phone tracking will give you an approximate location, but you don’t have to change your mobile phone or buy any equipment, and its very low cost to get up and running.  We also sell GPS trackers at www.gpswholesale.co.uk which are pin point accurate, but you do need to by the tracker.
